Torn Meniscus
This is a simple surgical procedure which involves the insertion of a small telescope into the joint. It is done in a hospital and usually as a day only procedure.
The advantage of the surgery is that it allows rapid recovery and often significant short to medium term benefit with a relatively short time away from the workplace or sports. If the arthritis is very advanced, however, the role of arthroscopy needs to be carefully considered as it may make the matter more troublesome rather than less. The opinion of an experienced Surgeon is crucial in this assessment.
Arthroscopy is particularly useful when there is locking or jamming of the affected joint. It allows immediate relief from the painful locking that some people experience.
