Dear friends,
We have had an eventful three months here at CRHP! Thanks to the support from the World Diabetes Foundation, our Mobile Health Team has been able to continue to assess thousands of villagers using the Indian Diabetes Risk Score. Simultaneously, we have conducted continuing education classes on diabetes with our Adolescent Programs and Village Health Workers. This month our goal is to support the Village Health Workers as they share their new knowledge with their communities. Their primary focus is on prevention and management strategies in regards to Type II diabetes. As this project moves forward, we hope to increase awareness and educational programs in our project villages and effectively manage diabetes in our diagnosed patients.
October marked the arrival of our first surgical camp for the season. With the help of FFPF and GICAM, our talented surgical team was able to complete 26 complex hand procedures. Once healed, these life-changing surgeries will increase patients’ hand function and mobility, allowing them to live more independently. Post-operative care is our main focus right now and we have patients arriving daily for continued wound care and physiotherapy. We are very pleased with the results of the surgeries and we look forward to watching our patients progress.
In conjunction with the surgical camps, we were fortunate to have Kaat Landuyt join us for a month. Her Marathi skills were a great help for translation during the surgical camps. She also provided support to our preschool, which she founded in 1993. We were excited to show Kaat the progress we have made in the implementation of the social-emotional learning curriculum developed by a Tuft’s master’s student this summer. As the school year progresses, we hope to implement one lesson per week to help our students continue to grow physically, emotionally, and socially.
We are so thankful for the donations that we have received thus far and we know that without the support of our donors our programs would struggle to continue. As the holidays quickly approach, we have initiated a fundraising campaign and we need your help! The #MonthofGiving fundraiser aims to raise awareness and funds for our upcoming surgical camps and our existing programs. Throughout the month of November, we will be posting stories and fundraising requests on all of our social media platforms. Please make sure to follow us on Facebook to receive posts pertaining to this campaign. We are thankful as always for your continued engagement and support.
We look forward to what this month has to bring as we continue to work with our patients, families, and communities!
